Apple September 2026 Event Could Redefine the iPhone Lineup With Six Major New Devices

Apple is preparing for one of its most important product launches of 2026, with a September event expected to introduce a combination of flagship smartphones, wearables, and audio devices. The company has confirmed that its next special event will take place on September 9 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, setting the stage for a major hardware announcement.

Rather than focusing only on another yearly iPhone upgrade, this event could mark a significant expansion of Apple’s hardware strategy. The biggest attraction is expected to be the company’s first foldable iPhone, while new Pro models, Apple Watches, and AirPods could broaden the lineup even further.

A New Direction for Apple’s September Hardware Strategy

Apple’s September launches traditionally revolve around the iPhone, but the expected 2026 lineup suggests a broader approach. The company is reportedly preparing at least six major products for the event, although Apple has not confirmed the individual devices yet. The anticipated lineup includes the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, a foldable iPhone that could carry the iPhone Ultra name, Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and AirPods 5.

Some additional products could also appear, although several rumored devices may instead arrive later in the year. This makes the September event particularly important for consumers who are considering an upgrade. Instead of choosing between a conventional iPhone and a larger model, buyers could soon have an entirely different form factor to consider.

iPhone 18 Pro Could Focus on Camera and Efficiency Improvements

The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to receive several internal and external changes. One of the most important upgrades could be Apple’s A20 Pro processor, which is rumored to use a 2nm manufacturing process. A smaller chip process could improve both performance and power efficiency. For everyday users, that could translate into faster applications, better gaming performance, and potentially improved battery endurance without requiring a dramatic increase in physical battery size.

The display area could also receive a subtle redesign. Rumors point toward a smaller Dynamic Island, while the Camera Control button could be simplified. Apple may also introduce a Dark Cherry color option, giving the Pro lineup a noticeably different appearance. Camera technology could become another major selling point. The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to feature an upgraded camera system, while Apple may continue refining the relationship between hardware improvements and computational photography.

iPhone 18 Pro Max May Offer Exclusive Camera Hardware

The iPhone 18 Pro Max could follow the familiar strategy of offering the largest display and battery while introducing additional features that are not available on the standard Pro model. One of the most interesting rumors concerns a variable aperture camera. If Apple implements this technology, photographers could gain greater control over how much light reaches the camera sensor.

It could also improve depth effects and provide more flexibility in challenging lighting conditions. The Pro Max model may also be slightly thicker than its predecessor because of a larger battery. This would represent a practical trade-off: a somewhat larger body in exchange for additional endurance. Apple has not confirmed these specifications, so the final configuration could still change before launch. However, the possibility of exclusive camera hardware makes the Pro Max particularly interesting for photography enthusiasts.

Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Could Be the Biggest Announcement

The most significant product expected at the September event is arguably the foldable iPhone. Apple has never released a foldable smartphone before, meaning the device would introduce an entirely new product category to its smartphone business. The rumored design resembles a book-style foldable phone. Reports suggest that it could feature a smaller external display for use when closed and a much larger internal screen when opened. The inner display has been described as approximately 7.7 inches, while the outer display could measure around 5.3 inches.

Apple could also make several compromises to achieve a slim design. The foldable model is rumored to use Touch ID integrated into the power button rather than Face ID. It may also have a simpler camera configuration compared with the Pro models. Software could be equally important.

iOS 27 is expected to include features designed around the larger foldable display, including side-by-side applications and multitasking capabilities that could make the device behave more like a compact tablet when unfolded. If these reports prove accurate, Apple’s foldable iPhone could compete not simply as another smartphone but as a hybrid between a phone and tablet.

Apple Watch Series 12 Could Prioritize Battery Life

The Apple Watch Series 12 is another product expected to appear during the event. Rumors suggest Apple could introduce a faster processor, potentially based on a newer generation of its S-series chips. Battery improvements are also expected. Longer endurance would address one of the most common limitations of smartwatches, particularly for users who rely on continuous fitness tracking and overnight health-related features.

Apple could additionally introduce a ceramic case option, giving customers a more premium alternative to existing materials. Fitness tracking improvements may also form part of the upgrade, although specific capabilities remain unconfirmed.

Apple Watch Ultra 4 Could Expand Satellite Features

The Apple Watch Ultra 4 is expected to continue Apple’s push into advanced outdoor and communication features. A faster processor and additional fitness functions could improve the overall experience, but satellite connectivity may be the more interesting development.

Apple is reportedly considering expanded satellite capabilities that could eventually allow features such as Apple Maps and Messages to work through satellite connections on supported Apple Watch models. Such capabilities would be particularly valuable for hikers, travelers, and people who regularly spend time away from cellular coverage.

AirPods 5 May Arrive in Two Versions

Apple could also refresh its wireless earbuds lineup with AirPods 5. Reports suggest there may be two versions, with one model offering active noise cancellation and another positioned without the feature. This approach would allow Apple to serve different price segments while keeping the core AirPods design accessible to more customers. The new generation could also benefit from improvements in sound quality, connectivity, battery efficiency, or integration with Apple’s broader ecosystem.

More Apple Devices Could Follow Later

The September event may not represent the entire Apple hardware roadmap for 2026. Several other products are reportedly being prepared for later launches. Possible future announcements include an updated iPad mini, an M6-powered iMac, a new 14-inch MacBook Pro, an upgraded Apple TV, a refreshed HomePod mini, and a new smart home hub. Some of these products are considered more likely to appear in October rather than September. This broader roadmap suggests Apple could maintain a busy product calendar through the final months of the year.

Why the September Event Matters

The significance of Apple’s September 2026 event goes beyond the arrival of another iPhone generation. The company appears to be preparing a more diverse hardware lineup that combines conventional upgrades with a completely new foldable category.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could strengthen Apple’s traditional flagship strategy through processor and camera improvements, while the foldable iPhone could open a new chapter for the company. At the same time, updated Apple Watch models and AirPods could reinforce Apple’s ecosystem across smartphones, wearables, and accessories.

Apple has confirmed the September 9 event, but the specifications and final product lineup remain subject to official announcement. Until then, the rumored devices provide a strong indication that Apple’s biggest hardware story in 2026 may not be another incremental iPhone upgrade, but the arrival of an entirely new way to use an iPhone.
