Oh man, I hear that Microsoft is rolling out a brand new thing for Windows 11. It’s cool. I think it lets me share my sound. Like, my music or movie sounds. Across two different pairs of my wireless headphones.
This is built using something called Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) audio codec, which sounds super techy. Right now, I can only try it if I’m a Windows 11 Insider person. I heard it’s in the Dev and Beta places. This smart idea means sharing a movie on my laptop with a friend will be way easier. No yucky wires.
I think the shared audio part means I can hook up two Bluetooth LE things to my computer. Then I just push the “Shared audio (preview)” button. It’s in the quick settings place. This could really change how me and my buddies listen together. Especially when we are out and about. Like, I can see us watching a funny flick on the train, wearing our own earbuds. We won’t bother anyone.
“This is really good for anyone wanting to share sound without those annoying cables or splitters,” a Microsoft guy said. I think he was talking at their big office. He said, “I believe this feature will really help students, travelers, and big families.” He made it sound so easy, just needing the right gear and clicking a button in Windows 11.
I know Microsoft’s been trying to make sound better on Windows 11. They added an LE Audio thing in August. It made my wireless headset sound better for games and calls. This new sharing stuff shows they really like using that Bluetooth LE stuff to make audio better.
Other big companies are doing this too, I noticed. Google, they use a thing called Auracast with Bluetooth LE. It lets Android 16 phones send sound to hearing aids. My friend told me Google later let my Pixel 8 phone connect to two headphones. Samsung also put Auracast in their phones, starting with that Galaxy S24 one. So, I see that lots of people want this shared sound thing.
For now, only some computers called Copilot Plus PCs have it in Windows 11. The Surface Laptops and Pro are some of them. Microsoft promises to bring it to more computers later. Like the Samsung Galaxy Book5 and another Surface Laptop. I need it now!
“We are working hard so more devices can get this feature,” the Microsoft person explained. “My main aim is everyone with Windows 11 can use shared audio.” They warned me though, I can only use it with Bluetooth LE-ready devices. Like the Samsung Galaxy Buds and the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones. I guess I need new stuff to make it work.
I heard this writer, Emma Roth, she writes about tech stuff. She thinks this shared audio will be super handy. “I think this is a really cool extra,” she wrote. “You can share your music with a friend while you’re walking around.” Since she knows a lot about tech and streaming, her opinion is important.
Getting this feature to Windows 11 Insiders means a big jump for Microsoft to make my computer better. They’re using Bluetooth LE and seeing that people want to share audio. Microsoft is trying to be the best at new audio things. Once it’s everywhere, it’s going to change how me and my friends listen to things on my Windows 11 computer.
Bluetooth LE audio is the main thing making this work. It’s got some good points. I heard it uses less battery power, so my wireless things last longer. Plus, I get better sound quality. So the music sounds richer. Because of these reasons, Bluetooth LE is perfect for sharing audio.
Putting shared audio into Windows 11 is part of a bigger idea. I think more of us are listening together now. As more things get this shared audio capability, I will have more chances to connect with people and share my favorite songs. This could change things for music, movies, and even school. Maybe we can all listen and learn together.
